RESUMEN

Two Gram-stain-negative strains, designed SYSU M86414T and SYSU M84420, were isolated from marine sediment samples of the South China Sea (Sansha City, Hainan Province, PR China). These strains were aerobic and could grow at pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0), 4-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), and in the presence of 0-10 % NaCl (w/v; optimum 3 %). The predominant respiratory menaquinone of strains SYSU M86414T and SYSU M84420 was MK-6. The primary cellular polar lipid was phosphatidylethanolamine. The major cellular fatty acids (>10 %) in both strains were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G, and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH. The DNA G+C content of strains SYSU M86414T and SYSU M84420 were both 42.10 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and core genes indicated that these novel strains belonged to the genus Flagellimonas and strain SYSU M86414T showed the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to Flagellimonas marinaquae JCM 11811T (98.83 %), followed by Flagellimonas aurea BC31-1-A7T (98.62 %), while strain SYSU M84420 had highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to F. marinaquae JCM 11811T (98.76 %) and F. aurea BC31-1-A7T (98.55 %). Based on the results of polyphasic analyses, strains SYSU M86414T and SYSU M84420 should be considered to represent a novel species of the genus Flagellimonas, for which the name Flagellimonas halotolerans sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the proposed novel isolate is SYSU M86414T (=GDMCC 1.3806T=KCTC 102040T).

Two novel actinobacteria, designated as SYSU M7M538T and SYSU M7M531, were isolated from oral of Eumetopias jubatus in Zhuhai Chimelong Ocean Kingdom, China. The cells of these microorganisms stained Gram-positive and were rod shaped. These strains were facultative anaerobic, and catalase-positive. Optimal growth occurred at 37 °C and pH 7.0 over 7 days of cultivation. Both strains possessed diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol and phosphocholine as the major polar lipids. The main menaquinone was MK-9(H4). The major fatty acids were C16:0, C17:1w8c, C17:0, C18:1w9c and C18:0. Analyses of genome sequences revealed that the genome size of SYSU M7M538T was 2.1 Mbp with G + C content of 52.5 %, while the genome size of SYSU M7M531 was 2.3 Mbp with G + C content of 52.7 %. The ANI and 16S rRNA gene analysis results showed that the pairwise similarities between the two strains and other recognized Nitriliruptoria species were less than 64.9 % and 89.0 %, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strains SYSU M7M538T and SYSU M7M531 formed a well-separated phylogenetic branch distinct from other orders of Nitriliruptoria. Based on the data presented here, these two strains are considered to represent a novel species of a novel genus, for which the name Stomatohabitans albus gen. nov., sp. nov., with the type strain SYSU M7M538T (=KCTC 59113T = GDMCC 1.4286T), are proposed. We also propose that these organisms represent a novel family named Stomatohabitantaceae fam. nov. of a novel order Stomatohabitantales ord. nov.

RESUMEN

A new species, Celaenorrhinus qianhanae Li & Liu sp. nov., is described from Hainan, China. Its unique genital characteristics and wing markings are compared with other congeneric species from this island and adjacent regions, including Vietnam and China, etc. In addition, its COI gene is sequenced for molecular analysis, and the secondary sexual character, hair tufts on hind tibiae, is discussed for comparison.

The estuarine system functions as natural filters due to its ability to facilitate material transformation, planktonic bacteria play a crucial role in the cycling of complex nutrients and pollutants within estuaries, and understanding the community composition and assembly therein is crucial for comprehending bacterial ecology within estuaries. Despite extensive investigations into the composition and community assembly of two bacterial fractions (free-living, FLB; particle-attached, PAB), the process by which bacterioplankton communities in these two habitats assemble in the nearshore and offshore zones of estuarine ecosystems remains poorly understood. In this study, we conducted sampling in the Yangtze River Estuary (YRE) to investigate potential variations in the composition and community assembly of FLB and PAB in nearshore and offshore regions. We collected 90 samples of surface, middle, and bottom water from 16 sampling stations and performed 16S rRNA gene amplicon analysis along with environmental factor measurements. The results unveiled that the nearshore communities demonstrated significantly greater species richness and Chao1 indices compared to the offshore communities. In contrast, the nearshore communities had lower values of Shannon and Simpson indices. When compared to the FLB, the PAB exhibit a higher level of biodiversity and abundance. However, no distinct alpha and beta diversity differences were observed between the bottom, middle, and surface water layers. The community assembly analysis indicated that nearshore communities are predominantly shaped by deterministic processes, particularly due to heterogeneous selection of PAB; In contrast, offshore communities are governed more by stochastic processes, largely due to homogenizing dispersal of FLB. Consequently, the findings of this study demonstrate that nearshore and PAB communities exhibit higher levels of species diversity, while stochastic and deterministic processes exert distinct influences on communities among near- and offshore regions. This study further sheds new light on our understanding of the mechanisms governing bacterial communities in estuarine ecosystems.

The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical features and demographic characteristics of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia (GTN) patients, specifically choriocarcinoma (CC), placental site trophoblastic tumour (PSTT), and epithelioid trophoblastic tumor (ETT). We utilized data from a local hospital and the SEER database, as well as survival outcomes of CC in SEER database. Additionally, we used multiple risk factors to create a prognostic nomogram model for CC patients. The study included GTN patients from the SEER database between 1975 and 2016 as well as those from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University between January 2005 and May 2022. Related factors of patients were compared using the chi-square (χ2) or Fisher's exact test. For assessing overall survival we employed the Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test. To construct the nomogram, we used Cox regression. Statistically significant differences were found between CC and PSTT/ETT patients in terms of surgery in local hospital, as well as age and year of diagnosis in the SEER database. Moreover, significant differences were observed between low and high (HR) /ultra-high risk (UHR) groups regarding FIGO stage, surgery and chief complaint at the local hospital, and FIGO stage, surgery and unemployment in the SEER database. The Cox regression analysis confirmed that age, race, surgery, marital status, FIGO stage, and unemployment were correlated with CC prognosis. Furthermore, the analysis showed that patients aged 40 years or older and those with FIGO Ⅲ/Ⅳ were independent prognostic factors of CC. The study indicates that atypical symptoms or signs may be the main reasons for HR /UHR patients to seek medical treatment. Therefore, providing multidisciplinary care is recommended for CC patients experiencing psychological distress due to unfavorable marital status or unemployment.

The paper introduces professor ZHUANG Li-xing's clinical experience in treatment of dyskinesia of Parkinson's disease with acupuncture at triple-acupoint prescription. In pathogenesis, dyskinesia of Parkinson's disease refers to yang deficiency and disturbing wind. In treatment, acupuncture focuses on warming yang, promoting the circulation of the governor vessel, regulating the spirit and stopping trembling; and Baihui (GV 20), Suliao (GV 25) and Dingchanxue (Extra) are selected to be "trembling relief needling". In combination with Jin's three needling, named "three-trembling needling" "three-governor-vessel needling" and "three-spasm needling", the triple-acupoint prescription is composed. To ensure the favorable therapeutic effect, this prescription is modified according to the symptoms and the specific techniques of acupuncture are combined such as conducting qi, harmonizing yin and yang, and manipulating gently for reinforcing and reducing.

The mangrove ecosystem is the world's fourth most productive ecosystem in terms of service value and offering rich biological resources. Microorganisms play vital roles in these ecological processes, thus researching the mangroves-microbiota is crucial for a deeper comprehension of mangroves dynamics. Amplicon sequencing that targeted V4 region of 16S rRNA gene was employed to profile the microbial diversities and community compositions of 19 soil samples, which were collected from the rhizosphere of 3 plant species (i.e., Avicennia marina, Ceriops tagal, and Rhizophora mucronata) in the mangrove forests of Lasbela coast, Pakistan. A total of 67 bacterial phyla were observed from three mangroves species, and these taxa were classified into 188 classes, 453 orders, 759 families, and 1327 genera. We found that Proteobacteria (34.9-38.4%) and Desulfobacteria (7.6-10.0%) were the dominant phyla followed by Chloroflexi (6.6-7.3%), Gemmatimonadota (5.4-6.8%), Bacteroidota (4.3-5.5%), Planctomycetota (4.4-4.9%) and Acidobacteriota (2.7-3.4%), Actinobacteriota (2.5-3.3%), and Crenarchaeota (2.5-3.3%). After considering the distribution of taxonomic groups, we prescribe that the distinctions in bacterial community composition and diversity are ascribed to the changes in physicochemical attributes of the soil samples (i.e., electrical conductivity (ECe), pH, total organic matter (OM), total organic carbon (OC), available phosphorus (P), and extractable potassium (CaCO3). The findings of this study indicated a high-level species diversity in Pakistani mangroves. The outcomes may also aid in the development of effective conservation policies for mangrove ecosystems, which have been hotspots for anthropogenic impacts in Pakistan. To our knowledge, this is the first microbial research from a Pakistani mangrove forest.

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile, ovoid-shaped and yellow-coloured strain, designated SYSU M79828T, was isolated from seawater collected from the South China Sea. Growth of this strain was observed at 4-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C), pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0) and with 0-6% NaCl (optimum, 3.0 %, w/v). The respiratory quinone was found to be Q-10. Major fatty acid constituents were C18 : 1 ω7c/C18 : 1 ω6c, C18 : 1 ω7c11-methyl and C18 : 0 (>5 % of total). The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, phosphoglycolipid, two unidentified phospholipid, one unidentified lipid and an unidentified glycolipid. The genomic DNA G+C content was 64.5 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and core genes indicated that strain SYSU M79828T belonged to the genus Cereibacter and had the highest sequences similarity to 'Rhodobacter xinxiangensis' TJ48T (98.41 %). Based on 16S rRNA gene phylogeny, physiological and chemotaxonomic characterizations, we consider that strain SYSU M79828T represents a novel species of the genus Cereibacter, for which the name Cereibacter flavus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SYSU M79828T (=GDMCC 1.3803T=KCTC 92893T). In addition, according to the results of phylogenetic analysis and similar taxonomic characteristics, we propose that Rhodobacter alkalitolerans should be reclassified as Cereibacter alkalitolerans comb. nov.

A Gram-staining negative, aerobic, motile, and short rods strain, designated SYSU M60028T, was isolated from a Pearl River sediment sample in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. The isolate could be able to grow at pH 6.0-8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0), 25-37 °C (optimum, 28 °C) and in the presence of 0-2% (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0% NaCl). The cellular polar lipids of this strain were phosphatidylethanolamine, diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, one unidentified aminolipid and three unidentified lipids. The respiratory quinone of SYSU M60028T was found to be Q-10. The major fatty acids (> 5% of total) were summed feature 8, C16:0, and C18:1 ω7c 11-methy1. The genomic DNA G + C content was 69.9%. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and core genes indicated that strain SYSU M60028T belonged to the genus Alsobacter and had the highest sequences similarities to Alsobacter metallidurans SK200a-9T (96.87%) and Alsobacter soli SH9T (96.87%). Based on the phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain SYSU M0028T should be considered to represent a novel species of the genus Alsobacter, for which the name Alsobacter ponti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is SYSU M60028T (= CGMCC 1.19341T = KCTC 92046T).

MicroRNA399 (miR399), a phosphate (Pi) starvation-induced long-distance signal, is first produced in shoots and moves to roots to suppress PHO2 encoding a ubiquitin conjugase, leading to enhanced Pi uptake and root-to-shoot translocation. However, the molecular mechanism underlying miR399 long-distance movement remains elusive. Hypocotyl grafting with various Arabidopsis mutants or transgenic lines expressing artificial miR399f was employed. The movement of miR399 across graft junction and the rootstock PHO2 transcript and scion Pi levels were analyzed to elucidate the potential factors involved. Our results showed that miR399f precursors are cell-autonomous and mature miR399f movement is independent of its biogenesis, sequence context, and length (21 or 22 nucleotides). Expressing viral silencing suppressor P19 in the root stele or blocking unloading in the root phloem pore pericycle (PPP) antagonized its silencing effect, suggesting that the miR399f/miR399f* duplex is a mobile entity unloaded through PPP. Notably, the scion miR399f level positively correlates with its amount translocated to rootstocks, implying dose-dependent movement. This study uncovers the molecular basis underlying the miR399-mediated long-distance silencing in coordinating shoot Pi demand with Pi acquisition and translocation activities in the roots.

Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences and core genes indicated that strain SYSU M60031T belonged to the genus Ectobacillus and showed the highest sequence similarity to Ectobacillus funiculus NAF001T (96.16%), followed by Ectobacillus antri SYSU K30001T (95.08 %). Based on the phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain SYSU M60031T should be considered to represent a novel species of the genus Ectobacillus, for which the name Ectobacillus ponti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of the proposed novel isolate is SYSU M60031T (=CGMCC 1.19243T =NBRC 115614T).

Microbes are widespread in the sea that covers more than two-thirds of the earth's surface and most microorganisms living in the marine environment have yet to be cultured. Previous studies showed that drying treatment, a strategy of sample pre-treatment widely applied in microbial isolation and incubation, may alter the cultivable microbial diversity, such as Actinomycetota, essential for exploring novel secondary metabolites from the marine environment, isolated from drying-treated samples. However, whether drying treatments actually can change microbial community diversity and how the drying treatments of samples influence the cultivable microbial diversity of marine samples have not yet adequately been evaluated. Here, three marine sediment samples were dried and incubated at 28 ºC, 37 ºC, and 45 ºC, and the microbial diversity was assessed with high-throughput sequencing. Our results suggested that drying treatments had different effects on different genera and some potential novel species could be cultured only from drying-treated samples, including the novel members from the families Paenibacillaceae and Thermoactinomycetaceae. Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis showed that the treated samples were clustered according to the cultivation temperatures rather than the drying conditions at high cultivation temperatures. However, at the cultivation temperatures of 28 ºC, drying treatments were the larger separation between cultivable microbial communities in the process of microbial isolation. These results showed that the drying treatments influenced the cultivated microbes in a taxon-specific pattern and extended potential novel taxa. Combining high-throughput sequencing to various drying conditions and incubation temperatures, this study provides new insight into the effects of drying treatment on the cultivable microbial diversity of marine sediments.

BACKGROUND: Viral-encoded auxiliary metabolic genes (AMGs) are important toolkits for modulating their hosts' metabolisms and the microbial-driven biogeochemical cycles. Although the functions of AMGs have been extensively reported in numerous environments, we still know little about the drivers that shape the viral community-wide AMG compositions in natural ecosystems. Exploring the drivers of viral community-wide AMG compositions is critical for a deeper understanding of the complex interplays among viruses, hosts, and the environments. RESULTS: Here, we investigated the impact of viral lifestyles (i.e., lytic and lysogenic), habitats (i.e., water, particle, and sediment), and prokaryotic hosts on viral AMG profiles by utilizing metagenomic and metatranscriptomic techniques. We found that viral lifestyles were the most important drivers, followed by habitats and host identities. Specifically, irrespective of what habitats viruses came from, lytic viruses exhibited greater AMG diversity and tended to encode AMGs for chaperone biosynthesis, signaling proteins, and lipid metabolism, which could boost progeny reproduction, whereas temperate viruses were apt to encode AMGs for host survivability. Moreover, the lytic and temperate viral communities tended to mediate the microbial-driven biogeochemical cycles, especially nitrogen metabolism, in different manners via AMGs. When focusing on each lifestyle, we further found clear dissimilarity in AMG compositions between water and sediment, as well the divergent AMGs encoded by viruses infecting different host orders. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, our study provides a first systematic characterization of the drivers of viral community-wide AMG compositions and further expands our knowledge of the distinct interactions of lytic and temperate viruses with their prokaryotic hosts from an AMG perspective, which is critical for understanding virus-host-environment interactions in natural conditions. The gigantea species group of the genus Colocasiomyia de Meijere (Diptera: Drosophilidae) is among the four aroid-breeding species groups in this genus; however, it differs from the remaining three groups in the host use: all the flies in this group use plants from the subfamily Monsteroideae instead of from the subfamily Aroideae. So far, we have not resolved the phylogenetic relationship within this group, making it difficult to trace its geographical origin, pattern of species diversification and history of host plant use. In this study, we reconstructed the phylogenetic relationships within the C. gigantea group using DNA sequences of eight (two mitochondrial and six nuclear) gene markers, and we inferred the ancestral areas and host plants of the group based on the resulting phylogeny. According to the results, the C. gigantea group may have diverged from its sister group (i.e., the C. cristata group) through vicariance between the northeastern Oriental region and Sundaland + Wallacea, and the subsequent diversification of the C. gigantea group occurred mostly in the northeastern Oriental region, although an Oriental-to-Sundaland dispersal was followed by vicariance between these two areas, which finally gave rise to the C. gigantea-C. scindapsae lineage in the latter area. We inferred the most likely ancestral host plant of the C. gigantea group to be of the genus Rhaphidophora Hassk, with possible subsequent shifts to Scindapsus Schott and/or Epipremnum Schott plants. We discuss the potential for the egg filaments in the C. gigantea group to be used as a model system for comparative studies in pollination mutualism and developmental genetics concerning tubulogenesis.

Microbes (e.g., bacteria and archaea) are indispensable components for the key biological processes of estuarine ecosystems and three main habitats (sediment, particle, and water) are harboring diverse estuarine microbes. However, we still know little about how the microbial community structures, potential keystone species, and network properties change among these three habitats in estuarine ecosystems. In this study, we collected size-fractioned water and sediment samples from the Pearl River Estuary to reveal their microbial diversity, community structures, network properties, and potential keystone taxa. We found that the sediment microbial community was remarkably more diverse than particle-attached (PA) and free-living (FL) communities, whereas its ecological network was less complex in terms of node distance and connectivity. TOC was determined as the main driver of sediment community, while the PA and FL communities were predominantly shaped by NO2-, non-ionic ammonia (NH) and pH. Among the bulk water, there were no significant differences between PA and FL communities in diversity, community structure, and network complexity. However, the PA community was more susceptible to metal elements, suggesting their higher level of involvement in physiological metabolism. Potential keystone taxa among community networks were taxonomically divergent in three habitats. Specifically, Synechococcales (Cyanobacteria) and Actinomarinales (Actinobacteria) exclusively served as the module-hubs in FL network, while members from phylum Proteobacteria and Bacteroidetes were the module-hubs and connectors in PA network. Potential keystone taxa in sediment network were more diverse and covered 9 phyla, including the only archaeal lineage Bathyarchaeia (Crenarchaeota). Overall, our study provided more detailed information about estuarine microbial communities in three habitats, especially the potential keystone species, which provided new perspectives on evaluating further effects of anthropogenic disturbances on estuarine microbes and facilitated the environment monitoring based on microbial community.

BACKGROUND: The worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 has become a public health crisis of unprecedented proportions. The fast spread of emerging variants increases the needs of rapid diagnostic and screening testing. Sample pooling efficiently expands the testing capacity under limited resources. OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the performance of sample pooling on the Point-of-Care (POC) Liat® and cobas® 6800 systems and provided real-world experiences for implementing these systems in large-scale screenings. METHODS: Positive nasopharyngeal (NP) specimens with Ct values < 25, 25∼30 or > 30 were tested individually and in pools to optimize the POC Liat® and cobas® 6800 systems, which were then implemented in community screenings. RESULTS: The 5-sample pooling strategy did not affect the positive detection rates on Liat® or cobas® 6800 in samples with Ct values <25 or 25∼30. However, in samples with low viral loads (Ct values >30), five-sample pooling has a higher positive detection rate on POC Liat® (20/20; 100%), compared to cobas® 6800 (9/20; 45%). Five-sample pooled on POC Liat® and two-sample pooled on cobas® 6800 appear to be appropriate for SARS-CoV-2 detection. By implementing the pooling strategies in two large-scale community screenings, 7,606 NP specimens was tested within 36 h; the average turn-around time was 4.8 h for cobas® 6800 and 1.3 h for POC Liat®. Eight positive specimens (0.11%; 8/7,606) were identified, with Ct values ranging from 18.85 to 37.68. CONCLUSION: The performance of sample pooling on POC Liat® was demonstrated to be an effective, accurate, and economical approach for large-scale community screenings for COVID-19.

Estuaries are one of the most crucial areas for the transformation and burial of terrestrial organic carbon (TerrOC), playing an important role in the global carbon cycle. While the transformation and degradation of TerrOC are mainly driven by microorganisms, the specific taxa and degradation processes involved remain largely unknown in estuaries. We collected surface sediments from 14 stations along the longitudinal section of the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), P. R. China. By combining analytical chemistry, metagenomics, and bioinformatics methods, we analyzed composition, source and degradation pathways of lignin/lignin-derived aromatic fragments and their potential decomposers in these samples. A diversity of bacterial and archaeal taxa, mostly those from Proteobacteria (Deltaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria etc.), including some lineages (e.g., Nitrospria, Polyangia, Tectomicrobia_uc) not previously implicated in lignin degradation, were identified as potential polymeric lignin or its aromatic fragments degraders. The abundance of lignin degradation pathways genes exhibited distinct spatial distribution patterns with the area adjacent to the outlet of Modaomen as a potential degradation hot zone and the Syringyl lignin fragments, 3,4-PDOG, and 4,5-PDOG pathways as the primary potential lignin aromatic fragments degradation processes. Notably, the abundance of ferulic acid metabolic pathway genes exhibited significant correlations with degree of lignin oxidation and demethylation/demethoxylization and vegetation source. Additionally, the abundance of 2,3-PDOG degradation pathways genes also showed a positive significant correlation with degree of lignin oxidation. Our study provides a meaningful insight into the microbial ecology of TerrOC degradation in the estuary.

Two novel species of the genus Deinococcus, designated SYSU M49105T and SYSU M42101T, were isolated from freshwater samples of the Pearl River estuary in Guangdong, China. Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strains SYSU M49105T and SYSU M42101T showed the highest sequence similarities to Deinococcus aetherius JCM 11751 T (93.6%) and Deinococcus multiflagellatus NBRC 112888 T (97.3%), respectively. Cells of both strains were Gram-staining positive, aerobic, coccus-shaped, oxidase-negative and non-motile. The cell wall contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as their diagnostic diamino acid. MK-8 was the predominant respiratory quinone for both strains. The polar lipid profile of SYSU M49105T contained two unidentified phosphoglycolipids, nine unidentified glycolipids, and five unidentified polar lipids. SYSU M42101T had one unidentified phosphoglycolipid, nine unidentified glycolipids, one unidentified aminophospholipid and four unidentified polar lipids. The major fatty acids of strains SYSU M49105T and SYSU M42101T were summed feature 3 (C16:1 ω7c and/ or C16:1 ω6c) and C16:0. The G + C contents of the novel isolates based on genomic DNAs were 69.6% and 67.4%, respectively. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data, strains SYSU M49105T and SYSU M42101T should be considered to represent two novel species in the genus Deinococcus, for which the names Deinococcus aestuarii sp. nov. and Deinococcus aquaedulcis sp. nov. were proposed with the type strains SYSU M49105T (= KCTC 43258 T = CGMCC 1.18609 T) and SYSU M42101T (= KCTC 43257 T = CGMCC 1.18614 T), respectively.

A novel actinobacterium, designated strain SYSU M44304T, was isolated from freshwater samples in the Pearl River Estuary. The isolate was Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, coccus-shaped, oxidase-positive and motile. The cell wall contained meso-diaminopimelic acid as its diagnostic diamino acid. The predominant menaquinone was MK-8. The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine and seven unidentified phospholipids. The major fatty acids were C16 : 0 and C16 : 1. The G+C content based on genomic DNA was 73.2 mol %. The nearest phylogenetic neighbours to the novel strain were Mobilicoccus pelagius NBRC 104925T and Mobilicoccus caccae YIM 101593T. On the basis of chemotaxonomic and physiological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis, strain SYSU M44304T should be considered to represent a novel species of a new genus in the family Dermatophilaceae, for which we propose the name Agilicoccus flavus gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain of Agilicoccus flavus is SYSU M44304T (=NBRC 114808T=CGMCC 1.18608T).

A novel species of the genus Roseomonas, designated SYSU M41301T, was isolated from water sample of the Pearl River estuary in Guangdong, China. Polyphasic, taxonomic and phylogenomic analyses were used to determine the taxonomy position of the strain. Phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that strain SYSU M41301T showed the highest sequence similarity to Roseomonas stagni KCTC 22213T (97.9 %) and Roseomonas riguiloci KCTC 23339T (96.4 %). The novel species could be differentiated from other species of the genus Roseomonas by its distinct phenotypic and genotypic characteristics. The isolate was Gram-staining-negative, aerobic, short rod-shape, oxidase-positive and non-motile. The predominant respiratory quinone was ubiquinone 8 (Q-8). The major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylcholine, and one unidentified polar lipid. The major fatty acids (>10 % of total) were 11-methyl C18 : 1 ω7c, summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/ or C16 : 1 ω6c) and summed feature 8 (C18:  :1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c). The G+C content of the novel isolate based on genomic DNA was 72.0 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data, strain SYSU M41301T should be considered to represent a novel species in the genus Roseomonas, for which the name Roseomonas ponticola sp. nov. is proposed with the type strain SYSU M41301T (=KCTC 72726T=CGMCC 1.18613T).
